The Three Reward Types Explained
Cashback is the simplest: you spend, you get a percentage back in real SAR. No conversion, no guessing. A 3% cashback on SAR 1,000 = SAR 30. Period.
Points are earned per SAR spent and redeemed for merchandise, travel, or statement credits. The catch: each point's SAR value varies wildly depending on how you redeem. 1 point might be worth SAR 0.01 for statement credit but SAR 0.03 for travel booking.
Miles are airline-specific (usually AlFursan in Saudi Arabia). They're earned per SAR spent and redeemed for flights. Mile value depends on the route and cabin — SAR 0.05-0.20 per mile is typical.
The transparency ranking: Cashback (most transparent) > Miles (moderate) > Points (least transparent). If you value simplicity, cashback wins.
Which Type Matches Your Lifestyle?
Choose Cashback if: You want guaranteed, transparent value. You don't travel frequently. You prefer money back in your account over collecting points. Best for: families, budget-conscious spenders, anyone who wants simplicity.
Choose Miles if: You fly Saudia at least 3-4 times per year. You're willing to plan redemptions strategically. You value business/first class travel but don't want to pay cash for it. Best for: frequent travelers, business travelers.
Choose Points if: You like flexibility. You enjoy optimizing redemptions. You use the bank's ecosystem (their travel portal, shopping partners). Best for: people who enjoy the 'game' of maximizing value.
The hybrid approach: Many savvy Saudi consumers use 2 cards — a cashback card for everyday spending and a miles card specifically for travel purchases. Mustafeed's Spend Optimizer can show you the exact split.
