Earning Miles from Credit Cards
Multiple Saudi banks offer credit cards that earn AlFursan miles with Saudia Airlines. The earning rates vary significantly:
- Al Rajhi: 1 mile per SAR 2.5 (local), 1 mile per SAR 0.75 (international)
• Riyad Bank: 1 mile per SAR 1.5 (local), 1 mile per SAR 1 (international)
• Alinma: 1 mile per SAR 1.5 (local), 1 mile per SAR 1 (international)
• SAB: 1 mile per SAR 3 (local), 1 mile per SAR 2 (international)
The best strategy is to use the highest-earning card for each purchase type. Riyad Bank and Alinma generally offer the best earning rates for local spending.
Sweet Spots for Redemption
Not all mile redemptions are equal. The value per mile varies dramatically based on how you use them.
Best value (SAR 0.10-0.20 per mile): Business class flights on long-haul routes (JED/RUH to London, New York, Kuala Lumpur). These typically cost 50,000-80,000 miles one-way but the cash price is SAR 8,000-15,000.
Good value (SAR 0.05-0.10 per mile): Economy flights on medium routes (JED to Cairo, Dubai, Istanbul). Around 25,000-35,000 miles for flights worth SAR 2,000-3,500.
Poor value (below SAR 0.03 per mile): Short domestic flights (JED-RUH), merchandise/gift cards from the rewards catalog, or paying for excess baggage. Avoid these.
